9/Tension Scale

One of my favorite gems.

billtheburger 10-04-2012 05:27 AM

It's in my personal top 10.
It's the only film I know that's always in there, too. I couldn't tell you the other 9.

Jack Package 10-04-2012 06:04 AM

I haven't seen it in years but I remember loving it as a kid. I'd watch it all the time.

Bane 10-04-2012 06:10 AM

I love it. You just can't rate nostalgia.

The Reaper 10-04-2012 06:11 AM

It's got its moments. I think it gets better the more you watch. It's a bit meh at times and inconsistent but I like the film overall. There are funny moments, scary moments, a kind of predictable plot but it's fun.

6/10

Just watched it a few months ago. Great movie. One of Dante's best.

The shot where everyone is staring down Hanks as he approaches the house is hilarious. Leone-style close ups of everyone on the block -- including the dog.

And then...

"Ray... This is Walter."

AAAAAHHGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!
*EXTREME CLOSEUP!!!*

Such an awesome, underrated little classic. And I felt like when it came out no one liked it.

4.5/5

One of my favorite movies since I was a kid.

"Pretty girl in this picture. She a friend of yours?"
"No, it came with the frame."

2.5/5

6/10 An average '80s comedy. Just watched it recently and it doesn't really hold up very well. Also, I've forgotten how much I hated the Art Weingartner charactor.

Gem.

Dr. Lecter 10-05-2012 07:01 AM

I love this movie.
Bruce Dern's character has some of the greatest lines in this film.

Rumsfield: Klopek, is that Slavic?
Reuben: NO!
Rumsfield: `Bout a nine on the tension scale there, Reub.

Mark Rumsfield: Rumsfield`s the name. Don`t believe I caught yours, sonny?
Hans Klopek: H-H-Hans.
Mark Rumsfield: Oh-ho! Hans! A fine Christian name. Hans Christian Anderson! What are you, Catholic?

"Don`t you make a move sonny. I was eighteen months in the bush and I could snap your neck in a heartbeat."

"What have you got in the cellar, HERR Klopek!"

"Oh-ho. Got somebody tied up in the ol` cellar, have yah, Rube?"

Lillyvon 10-05-2012 09:07 AM

I love this film so SO much. Little 'sleeper' that anyone that has seen it - like Tremors - love it (well I thought so until reading this thread!!!!)

I do a Hans Klopek nearly every morning - just walk out, scratch my chin in a dull kinda way and not a thought in my head.

 A truly great comedy performance from Bruce. Brilliant.

I'm only trying to take a nap! I'm only laying here with my eyes closed trying to get some sleep!

One of my all times favorites.

Bruce Dern > all

The part where Hanks' character picks up the gurney, hurls it into the ambulance and throws himself on it always cracks me up.

GerbilinRichardGeresass 10-05-2012 06:33 PM

Fantastic movie. I could watch it over and over.

It's interesting because, critics hated this film when it came out. The appreciation of the film has grown so much over time.

I love the characters. Love the neighborhood setting. It's funny and very entertaining.

I love the scene where Hanks pulls the hairpiece from his shorts and Dern replies "You've Had That In Your Shorts The ENTIRE Time"?

Fuck a critic. I've been a 'Burbs fan for life, my VHS copy was working overtime.
