What actors from the Golden Age are still alive?
Upon hearing about Jane Russell's death a few weeks ago and not knowing she was still alive at that point and recently learning that Olivia de Havilland is still alive (born 1916) I was wondering which actors are still alive from the Golden era, aproximetly from the 1930's - 1950's. It would be nice to know who is still alive and kicking. Directors and other film associates are also worth mentioning. Lets celebrate yesteryears heroes.

I was great to see Borgnine in RED.
How about Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif? They came a little later than DeHaviland for sure. Btw Shirley Temple is still around.

Although I know that many of these stars are ancient and perhaps far too diminished or private, I would like to see them utilized more as TCM does with their classic movie film festival in Los Angeles, having surviving stars like Borgnine introducing their classic films and doing talks and Q & A's as well. A living testament is always more interesting than reading it as dry history. Gregory Peck did small tours to this end in his later years and I think it is an excellent idea - like a book tour with films.
What buff of films would not enjoy having, say, Eli Wallach presenting two or three of his films, like The Magnificent Seven, The Misfits, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly - a man who rubbed shoulders with the likes of Clark Gable, Steve McQueen, Monty Clift, Marilyn Monroe, and John Huston and is still here to tell the tale? _______________ Last edited by Hello Heino; 03-19-2011 at 12:53 PM. |

Apart from Harryhausen, Reynolds and Loren I wasn't aware the rest were still alive. This has made Matt the Hat very happy. Especially knowing that Lizebeth Scott is still around.

Liz Taylor and Lauren Bacall seem among the few true "golden age" actors remaining (they needed to be an established star before 1950, as I see it). Shirley Temple too, who still looks disturbingly young.

Sisters Fontaine and de Havilland won Oscars before 1950. Rooney was a box office star before 1940.

Terrible news about Liz.
For living Golden Agers, I found this link: http://filmexperience.blogspot.com/2...-nominees.html and would like to add John Ford vet Vera Miles and Douglas Sirk vet John Gavin.

Now let me get this straight, it’s the future, there’s no gasoline, but everyone’s driving around in cars. I don’t get it! NO STARS Three Men and a Baby (Nimoy, 1987) Not for the under-17, it’s a little surreal. But brilliant concept! It’s three men and then there’s a baby and they shouldn’t be with it! The title makes me laugh! FOUR STARS |

As of yet unmentioned are the still-living voice actors from the Golden Age: Stan Freberg and June Foray.
Wait, no. Not just still-living. Still WORKING.
