Rant I Forgot To Make At The Appropriate Time:

["Welcome to 2005, Matt"]

What's the deal with people using the old The Simpsons punch line "Boo-Urns" to emphasize something being bad? During the scene in question everyone boos Mr. Burns' short film. When Burns questions the audience's actions Smithers says, "They aren't booing, sir. They're saying boo...urns. Boooo-urns." [We all know how the rest of the scene plays out.]

This means that "boo-urns", as an out of context phrase, should be used as a positive. Yet, for the YEARS people have been saying, "Oh! Boo-urns!" they say it as a negatively connoted expletive. Why? "Boo" on it's own is already boo. It's the thing - the thing that you're meaning to say. Why the hell are you adding more syllables to it?

Except it's a reference to a very specific joke. The idea that anyone would shout "BOO-urns" is ridiculous. Whether or not it's positive or negative is irrelevant. The jeer's been turned into an allusion meant to call attention to their taste in pop culture, not to actually express pleasure or displeasure.

Za? Not true, what-so-ever. Every time I hear it (still) it's very much to 'express... displeasure". Don't get me wrong; it may be a regional thing.

I'm not sure if it was your post. It may have been what made me post a thread about it at that particular moment, but it certainly wasn't what made me think of it.

Good thing you got this off your chest.

More importantly, I'm really angry at all you guys who say "Play it again Sam." They never say that in Casablanca, not once!

During the wait for the midnight premiere of The Simpsons the showing was delayed by ten minutes. During the fifth minutes of waiting the crowd started to boo, I decided to be clever and yell "Boo-urns". The crowd loved it.

The thing about boo-urns is that there is yet to be a worthy boo-urns subsititute.

Amen brother. Also it's "The goggles do nothing" not "The Goggles. They do nothing." And Captain Kirk never said "Beam me up Scotty." WTF is wrong with people?

I've never heard anyone say that. It would be kind of funny if it was a regional thing, like if everyone from a particular state makes that particular Simpsons reference all the time.

Everyone understands the joke right? If you go to a Bruce Springsteen concert people wonder why they are booing him. Someone will say thay aren't booing him, they are chanting Bruuuuuuce. I don't remember the Simpsons episode in question. But assume they are placating Mr. Burns by suggesting he is like Springsteen

Oh, taggers. Who the hell is doing that? Think about it; there is one reply for every single view to this thread (except the first one of course, since the OP doesn't count as a view). So, at least one of the posters in here is either messing around or he/she is, as Smalley put it, "...the worst of the worst". So, who is it? Jack Package? Rockatansky? ...Cow?... I know Smalley always adds the "Matthew Douche... Nozzle" one, but that's because I ask for it

The acronym "MILF" has always bothered me. It's an unsexy word that fails to describe a mature attractive women. "MILF" sounds more like a group of characters from The Lord of the Rings. I suppose I should be grateful for the newish word "cougar" which does carry sex appeal.
