How is Heroes still on the air?
When the show first came out, I was one of those who didn't watch it. Thinking the whole concept of "no costumes" had to be the mark of a ignorant show. Eventually some friends talked me into watching it and I loved the first season. Currently, as the present season ends, my thoughts can only wonder one thing.
How on earth is this show still on the air? It has no plot. The show is nothing but moment to moment nonsense about the carnival. Seriously, I'm not a professional writer and neither is my 16 year old daughter. I'd be willing to bet my daughter could write a better plot and story for Heroes. Damn... such a disappointment. |

I got tired of finding out this one is that one's grandma, and this guy is actually the father of that one. They also wore out the "x character also has superpowers too" device. Hey, I'm the hero that can turn lamps on with my left eye, or I can make hairbrushes spin at the speed of sound and create wormholes. It's a stupid-ass show, amateurishly written, produced and acted, and has the distinction of having the most annoying, cutesy Japanese character in TV history.
I could just say Ali Larter is in it -- and nothing more really needs to be said.

This is one show I won't miss when it's off the air though I really enjoyed the first season.

NBC doesn't really have too much else. Additionally, they probably granted a few additional seasons hoping the writers could recapture the decency we saw in S1. At this point, though, unless NBC has next to nothing new next season I can't see them granting Heroes a 3rd chance.

I liked the first season. Was really puzzled by the precipitous decline in quality during the second season. Started watching the third and could see it wasn't going to get any better, so I gave up and have never watched it since. I don't miss it.

i will admit I watched the whole first season, and was liking it, until they started wearing out their plot crutches.

I have only seen the first two episodes rifftraxed. I thought it seemed pretty interesting, but all I hear is how horrible the show becomes.

I assume one of the producers of Heroes has pictures of an NBC executive rutting with a farm animal.

My roomate watches it religiously and says the show is addicting. Must still have a dedicated non-discriminatory geek-following.

That comment confused me as well.
I'm not sure if it'll be back. As far as I know it has yet to be renewed and the S4 finale was a bit like a series finale.

Shows are supposed to be good to be on the air?
When was this ruling introduced? |

Either Heroes still has a loyal following or the network is so bereft of quality programming that they believe Heroes is the only thing worth watching. That's all I can say about how the show remains on the air.
Which is funny because I was a big fan of it during the first season. I thought it was really interesting, fun to watch, and had me glued to the screen. Then season two came and things started weakening. The pace was much slower than the first season. Agonizing at times where I wasn't riveted, more frustrated and going "AW COME ON!". But I continued to watch. Season three is where I fell out of favor with it, even though I watched the first act all the way through. What got me off of it was the whole: Select the black box below with your cursor to view the spoiler text
That arc was the stupidest of them all. Not to mention making him change allegences. First, he's a villain. Then, he's with the good guys. Oh wait, he was deceiving them, he's a villain again. No, he's an anti-hero battling the villains. Oh, wrong, he's an anti-villain working for the heros but secretly waiting to screw them over. Hey, he's doing the same thing with the villains. (Head explodes) Wasn't just Syler. Every hero seemed to play the old switcheroo once to often, excusing it as "The world is shades of grey" reasoning where anyone can be a hero and a villain. Bull. It just makes it harder to make sense of what the hell is going on with these characters. Plus, it's LAZY WRITING! I started noticing other problems like Peter just can't seem to TAKE ACTION whenever he's got a villain cornered. Seriously, one minute he's poised to make the final strike and then just stands there, unsure of what to do, while the villain tries to reason/make up excuses with him. Just gives the villain enough time to overpower him and get away. God, Peter, freakin' TAKE ACTION. None of this "But he's got a point" fall back. Also got annoyed there weren't any no-name villains. It was Patrelli versis Patrelli. Mama Patrelli versus Nathan Patrelli, Peter versus Nathan, Mama versus Peter, Mama versus Papa Patrelli, Fatal-three way, Fatal-four way, ad nauseum. Reminded me of when World Wrestling Entertainment ratched up the Mcman feuds to the point where it got so tiresome. Heroes did the same thing: A Patrelli feud of epic proportions. That's what we got in the end. I got as far as the first act of season three. Haven't bothered since. And from what I've heard, things just haven't changed at all. |

Season 1 was amazing.
The others........not so much. Ugh. But it would be one of the best shows of all time if it had kept the quality of Season 1. |

The reason is simple. The show excels in continuity, coherence, and plausibility. It's no soap-opera, but a well-designed thought experiment about evolutionary development and its sociological implications. Kudos to the Heroes writing team for not using any cheap writing tricks.

Thinking back I'm not even sure the first season was that great. It still ended in the most horrifically insulting way possible, like every following season, and it introduced ideas that were never followed up with.
As for my opinion of the show: GOOD ****ING GOD DAMN MOTHER ****ING WHAT??!!!! What is this show?! As has been said (and by me in other threads) Heroes may be number one of "worst writing of all time". And that's not one of those hyperbole laden statements made when something gets popular - Heroes genuinely has some of, if not the single worst, writing of all time for T.V. Let's count the failures: -Hiro never becomes "future Hero" with the sword. -Hiro never does anything with a dinosaur. -Silar is never EVER defeated. -9 out of 10 character don't actually care about even trying to fight Silar - at any point what-so-ever. -A hero woman that can teleport through power lines comes along, adds about three sentences worth of plot to the show, leaves saying, "There's something special I need to do" then is never to be seen again. -There is an eclipse sub plot that not only makes no sense but comes out of absolutely no where, then leaves out of no where. -The best character the show ever had (Speedster chick) is killed off inexplicably, but not before being dragged through the mud with some of the cheesiest T.V. of recent memory. -Peter show up in Ireland for reason never fully explained, doesn't actually do anything while there, then leaves to never think about it again. -A PRIMARY... yeah, PRIMARY story line about a future virus that kills half the planet if completely dropped. ONE HUNDRED ****ING PERCENT DROPPED. It is never brought back up again in even the slightest way. -The Irish woman that Peter falls in love with is brought to the virus future and left there to never be thought about again. Not even a single sentence mention of her. -Clair's brother is dropped from the show after being fully established in the first two seasons (so there's no excuse for that). -Clair's season two boyfriend is inexplicably dropped - then there one line over two years later of, "I wonder where (whatever his name was) is?" -Lightning girl is introduced as a major bad-*** psychopath in season two, killing a man like it was nothing, then becomes a psychotic nut-bar in season three and is completely wasted right off of the show. -Characters continually make bizarre decisions when they actually have Silar in a position where they can take him out, then don't, for no reason beyond the fact that everyone on the show doesn't really care about Silar in the least. -The "heroes" kill Daddy Petrelli in a manner that defies his powers, and yet Clair, who basically "dies" the same way comes out just fine. -The Haitian character eventually just falls out of the show with no real character conclusion. -Season three introduces one of the most infuriating and god awful characters/situations ever put to paper: The evil "specials" hunter/team. -Nathan becomes evil for absolutely no conceivable reason what-so-ever. -Nathan goes back to being "good" for absolutely no conceivable reason. -Nathan is noted to have direct access to the president for some reason - a man who Nathan convinces needs to capture people with special powers, yet that man doesn't care to actually do anything with the revelation that super powers exist. -Hiro does stuff that no one cares about and has nothing to do with anything. -Ando does stuff that no one cares about and has nothing to do with anything. -The actually production quality of the show takes a major, MAJOR dip. -Silar could easily kill of ALL of the people hunter the "specials" but doesn't bother for no reason beyond that fact that Silar is written to be too powerful and can essentially ruin every storyline if he's not distracted with retarded sub-plots that amount to absolutely nothing and half the time are dropped entirely. -Silar find his dad after a several episodes, has no revelation of any sort, then leaves. -Characters gets powers from a formula that don't make sense (ie. Spider-Mohinder) -Characters become evil for about five minutes then the next five minutes they are "good" again and all is forgiven no matter how grievous there actions were. -The same formula (well, sorta') that gave people power takes away some people's power, gives other people different powers, all the while the only decent character, who became too overpowered, gets royally arse-****ed by getting only half his powers back - for no discernible reason other than to balance out the crap writing. -Hiro gets cancer and Peter goes on the hunt for someone with healing power. When he gets healing powers he immediately forgets about Hiro, gets a different power, can no longer heal Hiro, doesn't even mention Hiro ever again. -Parkman (as the cops think) murders someone, gets shot to death, yet leaves to go home with everything wrapped up like it never happened so that his character can be reset with no obstructions. -Hiro's cancer seemingly comes and goes. -Hiro could easily kill every last "bad" character in the whole show at any time he wants yet... DOESN'T!!!!1!!!ONE! OH, DEAR GOD! WHY DOESN'T HE ****ING KILL THEM ALL??!!! -Hiro gets in a trap with the baddie to save Charlie. He doesn't really bother trying that hard... because he's the biggest ***** with powers ever written. -A deaf power woman is introduced, and her story sucks balls. -An entire carnival sees a man destroy an entire city and all the people in it, AND know that that same man killed his brother, the leader of the carnival, but think nothing of it. -That same carnival wants blood when a different man they suspect killed one person. -The carnival baddie has a man with arguably the most powerful power one could have working for him, to do evil things, even to his friends, for no discernible reason. -Peter by this point has become a complete shell of a character, especially great character he seemed to be on the trail to becoming in season one... you know... where he was the MAIN character. -No show in history has had more filler episodes. -No show in history has had more completely dropped characters. -No show in history has had more retro-active plot fixings. -No show in history has the main "bad-guy" become good, then evil, over and over. -No show in history has had a primary "bad-guy" stay free/live for so long even though everyone, including the FBI, have been actively chasing him. -No show in history has had more dropped "potential future" plots. -No show in history has ever dropped more plot lines with zero mention of them ever again (no, even 24 which has been on for twice the time). In conclusion Heroes is so bad that the writers, directors, producers, creator, airing network, etc should all know that they have gained a special place in history: Participants of one of the single most Earth shatteringly, soul-crushingly, laughable, insulting, steaming piles of pure excrement ever to be displayed on a television set.

Has it been on long enough to go into syndication? If not, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that it might come back, even though the ratings are in the toilet.
