Remember the episode where the brother and sister are babysitting and the baby goes through that hole under his bed?

Are you bringing this up because Dinosaurs is streaming on Netflix (US)?

It's a happy coincidence. Someone linked to it in one of the religion threads, and I watched, and then I got curious today, and I was like, no way.

I liked Jessica Walter before I understood what a Jessica Walter was.

It's fun seeing the voice artists career paths.

While it's pretty easy to pick out Kevin Clash as the voice of Baby since he's basically doing a take on Elmo, did you know he was also the voice of:

I had no idea.

Was Dinosaurs completely ahead of its time or was it just a strange experiment that should be forgotten? I'm thinking it's a creative masterpiece that was mostly misunderstood. The show is hilarious.

I would say it was completely ahead of its time. Plus it had one of the ballsiest series finales ever.

I don't know if it's ahead of its time - its "ballsy" social criticisms came awfully close to feeling like after-school specials, but it's admirable that the show so frequently gunned for satire on airspace normally devoted to the nadir of family-happy pablum (TGIF).

From '91 to '94 I was 11 years old to 14 years old. At that time I was a huge fan of Rosanne and I remember when watching Dinosaurs thinking that it was a combination of the things I loved as a younger kid (cartoons) and the things I was starting to like as I got older (realistic sit-coms like Rosanne). Not that I was 'getting old' per se, but I was identifying my changing tastes as I aged and Dinosaurs was a fantastic bridging of those gaps.

Then again, maybe I'm being a bit too romantic about a prime-time TV show featuring talking dinosaur puppets.

That was the first thing that came to mind.. but then I thought 'what's ballsy about ending a series about dinosaurs with them all getting wiped out?'

Earl Sinclair is directly responsible for an ice age. It ends up being a huge environmental point. Given that the show's villain is named BP Goodrich, this isn't all that surprising, but the sheer nakedness of the metaphor is pretty impressive.

Doesn't it end with them all watching the TV, waiting to die with the overall message, "We did this to ourselves?"

Yeah, I'd say that was pretty heavy for what people perceived and expected from that "Not the mama!" show.

B.P. Richfield, actually.

I bought the whole series DVDs a few months ago. Great show, if admittedly a little preachy. There are a lot of golden moments, though.

Robbie: Dad, but if you go, who will play catch with me, or take me fishing?
Earl: I don't know. Who does that now?

Priceless delivery.

Another moment is when they're watching sports on TV with lots of fancy graphics, then the commentator comes on to say "We'll be back with more 3D logo action in just a minute, but let's check in on the game."

And how can you not love it when the Dinosaurs news anchor is named Howard Handupme?!

Fun fact about the show is that most of the characters were named after big oil plants (BP Ritchfield) or other environment destroying companies.

There was one episode that was completely about sexual harrasment in the work environment...on a kids show!

It was all about a dinosaur coming onto a female brontosaurus at work and she takes him to court(Unheard of)and the Tv Court title was "What sexual harris meant."

Final Fantasy Realm Reborn Discussion

The true secret in being a hero lies in knowing the order of things. The swineherd cannot already be wed to the princess when he embarks on his adventures, nor can the boy knock on the witch's door when she is already away on vacation. The wicked uncle cannot be found out and foiled before he does something wicked. Things must happen when it is time for them to happen. Quests may not simply be abandoned; prophecies may not be left to rot like unpicked fruit; unicorns may go unrescued for a very long time, but not forever.

The happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story.
