While that does like intense, the fact that it didn't actually even indicate what the "terror" aspect was left me more confused than anticipating.
For instance, if it's a supernatural type thing then I couldn't care less.

What I liked about the trailer was the lack of dialogue...it was a rather quiet and unnerving trailer, injected with those jolts of creepiness.

Precisely. Very elegantly constructed, aside from the sudden loud scream which made me instantly regret wearing headphones.

It's funny how ghosts and what-not scare people the most even though when applied to reality they should be the very least thing you should be scared of (as in not at all).

Wow, that may be the most disturbing trailer I've ever seen. The movie looks amazing, but I think I may need a change of drawers when I watch it.

If? Do you really need clarification?

There are numerous reasons why ghosts are so popular as a horror technique. Fear of the unknown, obviously. Fear of having our private space invaded by an invisible presence. And the fear of mortality, that there is indeed some sort of afterlife but an unexplainable one.

It has received good buzz from recent festivals. It didn't make everyone's best of list at FrightFest, but it still looks quite effective. I hate when those small off center images in the background turn out to be demons. It's a cliche that always creeps me the **** out.

What are you asking?
What I'm asking is: Is it a movie about a serial killer or a ghost-type thing? At first it looked reminiscent of that hotel movie with Kate Beckinsale but then the image flashes made it look ghost related. I thought it would have been bad-ass if it was NOT supernatural, but then there's the whole screaming lady in the box thing - so... you know...

That is odd, and I find it humorous in a quirky way, especially considering the complete impossibility of being hurt by, let's say, a bogey-man.

I mean, given the age of the videos he watches, I guess the weird monster could be a really old serial killer that poses in hidden corners of dozens of pictures and movies (where nobody notices him, including one where he appears to be calmly sitting underwater) but in the meantime between kills he's been dusting up on how to hack computers and trick a bunch of random people into going crazy (I wish my community college taught this course). What did everyone think of Insidious in retrospect? Same makers and obviously very similar ground.

Ironically the standard general audiences cut was a bit scarier, cliches and all. However, this version is more thoughtful. Absence of dialogue helps avoid revealing plot points. The soundtrack also lacks the conventional thunderous bursts to cue shock. This permits the imagery to be more lasting and thus haunting.
The movie may very well suck buns, but I certainly approve this method of preview.

Whoops. Does this actually have anything to do with Insidious? I thought I saw some description that it was the producers or team behind the recent spookhouse horror. I even assumed it was James Wan or whoever the guy who started Saw was behind it too, but turns out this was directed by another guy. Maybe I mixed that up. Anyhow, it still seems similar.

agrabs use
I don't know if I'll be able to handle this one. I don't get scared often, but I usually always can tell when a movie is really gonna scare the crap out of me, and I go anyway. And then I'm a giant *****, and all my friends make fun of me.
I saw Insidious, and I was so terrified I was seriously hoping the film in the projector would just break, so I didn't have to watch it anymore. I convinced myself my apt was haunted for like 3 months after that. Some movies scare me so bad they **** my life up. I bet you this will be one. Oh boy. |

Not quite the same makers, but nonetheless I really enjoyed Insidious. It's great, silly, inoffensive fun. It's like a slightly darker Poltergeist, complete with a few scary creature contraptions and a focus on spookiness rather than body count. It's hard not to have a good time watching it.

Yeah, it's so lame how some people use their imaginations.

Finally one of our very own posters gets a movie named after him.
I don't even believe in ghosts but a good ghost story still makes me creeped out or make my hair stand up. |

Or were you just fishing for a typical one sentence reply from Smalley? I'll admit, it's not hard to get him to do that. It's actually kinda' weird how a couple of you guys are getting such massive hard-ons over the idea that someone is questioning the idea of being scared by ghosts. Is this something you guys take personally?
