Yep. The variety 4-packs I've seen consist La Fin du Monde, Trois Pistoles, Maudite, and Don de Dieu (12 oz bottles, to be clear, but still way cheaper than this beer is normally). Like I said, I've no idea if all the store are stocking these or if its just the ones near me, but I'd thoroughly recommend it for lovers of decent craft brew. This may be a temporary promotional thing to get people interested.

I want to try Ephemere at some point (not included in the 4-pack), mostly because I really like the bottle art.

It's because Guinness travels poorly. In Dublin it has to travel down the street to get to any pub. In Canada we get our Guinness from a brewery in Ontario, no joke. But it still has to travel across the country to get to my neck of the woods. Check it out, have you ever seen Guinness in a bottle like this?

Yeah, I actually prefer the Extra Stout to the regular Guinness sold here (Arizona).

Yah I've seen the bottles and cans as well. Don't particularly like either. I think having it in Dublin spoiled me for normal Guinness. I sound like an elitist prick saying it but its true. You can tell, too, if it's going to be a decent glass when you order it by seeing how the pour is.

Yep, definitely. That's why there's only one pub where I'll order it around here. Every once in a while I take a stroll to that pub to have a Guinness or two and end up having about five.

How is New Belgium's 1554? I love Fat Tire and would like to try more of their products.

Hoegaarden is okay but I always feel like a knob if I get one in a bar and they bring me that ridiculously gigantic glass.

Loves me some Bell's. I was recently in Kzoo (my kid's at WMU) and returned home with a sampler pack from the brewery. Amber Ale and Two Hearted are my faves so far.

I love beer. I usually drink Guinness extra stout. I am open to new stuff. I had Arrogant Bastard once and it was pretty good. It's expensive though, $16 for a six pack at a beer and wine warehouse store. I am more into the dark, bitter beers. I do drink lighter beers but it is just not my preference. I want to try some of these suggestions. It is always good to try new stuff. I try not to be too much of a beer snob.

I hate paying more that much for a 6 pack too, but I always bite the bullet and do it. I figure if I go out with friends to a bar, 6 Miller Lites would cost anywhere from $12 - $20, so I might as well pay for something good / new / different.

If you're looking into trying different stouts, I'd suggest the beer below. Judging from your post, I think you'd enjoy it. More on the "beginner" side of stouts, nothing too overpowering. A 6-pack should run you no more than $12. Not sure where you live, but hopefully it's available:

Bell's Double Cream Stout

lol @ $16 being expensive for a 6-pack. That's almost standard where I live. For a typical domestic you're looking at $12 for a sixer. For something more exotic $16 is about right. It's a right pain in the ass any time I go into the States and see 12-packs of microbrews for $12 to $15.

That sucks that is a normal price for you. I am just used to paying that price for a 12 pack.

I know, it's absolute bullshiit. The liquor laws in my province are fuucking stupid. One province over, in Alberta, booze is much cheaper.

It's not unusual to pay $10-14 for a 750ml bottle (a little over two 12oz bottles) of good stuff. It hurts.

If you're looking for decent microbrew that isn't too expensive, I recall Rogue being a little less pricey. Circa $10-11 for a 6-pack, or $5-6 for a large 22oz. Stone is similar, you can get a large single for circa $5-6. If you get the Imperial Russian Stout, you can enjoy decent beer while getting drunk in a big hurry, too. Spending $12 getting wasted on nice beer isn't bad.

I one time walked away from my local craft beer shop and brewing supply store (BX Beer Depot, south FL0 with 4 750ml bottles, a 4 pack, and a 6 pack. My total was $87.

Good beer is the expensive.

Does anyone else own a growler they can take somewhere and fill up? That's my main method of stocking up at the local beer market.

My friend and I use growlers for the local brewery (Due South.) But it's not as prevalent a practice down here as it is in, say, Portland.

Rogue will try and rope you into getting extra-novelty stuff like bacon maple doughnut beer for $10 a bottle. Stone will try and rope you in to buying some of the strongest IPAs known to man that will ruin your palette for anything else once your mouth adjusts. Both brewers *can* be done affordably, though.

They're picking up steam in Knoxville, TN. Here its usually cheaper to get a growler filled than buy a good six pack.

Anyone ever try a Saw Works beer? Its a local brewery and I'm wondering if they've expanded to other states.

My utility beer is Miller High Life. I drink a lot of it. I'm a big fan of Sweetwater Brewing Co., out of Atlanta. Their 420 Extra Pale Ale and I.P.A. are both fantastic, and I just noticed this tonight at the store so I grabbed a six-pack (haven't tried it yet):

Some other favorites include Brooklyn Lager, Fat Tire, Redhook ESB, and Magic Hat #9.

Love beer so much. Love this thread for all the suggestions.

There are actually a lot of good Texas beers. Live Oak, Real Ale, and even Shiner are all solid.

But Lone Star is special in that it's (in theory) only sold in Texas. Though I saw it a few times in NYC for whatever reason. Lone Star is also dirt cheap. It's not uncommon to see it on special some places for less than $1. For that level of quality, I'd take it over Bud Light or High Life anyday.
