What are we watching this Halloween Season?
What movies do we love to watch come Halloween-time?
Which ones are more than just horror movies, but really capture the "spirit" (hahahaha) for us. In '05, I watched a horror movie every night of the month of October. As I compile my list for '08, I invite you to share yours, lists and favorites, and anything else Halloween related you wish to share. To start the mood, I give you the legendary Skeleton Dance: ![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP1Tz...eature=related

Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town.
Also Scanners and Videodrone are becoming yearly traditions.

I don't really have a set schedule. I do always make time for a few must watch Halloween movies and TV specials like Garfield's Halloween Special, It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and various Simpson Treehouse Of Horror episodes. Movies I always watch include The Return Of The Living Dead, Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch, Night Of The Living Dead (original), Night Of The Demons...any movie or TV show that has that Halloween feel I will watch. Halloween is my favorite holiday so I try to keep it as festive as possible.

I enjoyed this thread last year too, and what rouge and I are doing in our thread is more of just an overall celebration of the Halloween season in general.

Before we get off Page 1, I wanted to lay down my thinking for what makes a good "Halloween movie".
1. The more traditional, the better. I think to get the good All Hallow's Eve' feel, the more classic you go, the more you capture it. For this reason, I tend to go with Monster, Ghost, Witch, Devil, Phantom (special category) and Ghoul movies, and avoid conventional slashers. 2. Ya gotta go "Supernatural". Who wants a standard stalker or a crazy neighbor for the festival of Samhain? Nah, ya gotta have something from the Dark Side to creep around in your nightmares. 3. Scares over Gore. For pure Halloween-style horror, I don't think you can beat suspense and mood to give you the proper frights. For this reason, for example, a Ghoul-based suspense-fest like Night of the Living Dead, is gonna beat out a Ghoul-based splatter-fest like Zombi. And great moments of suspense will get the nod over chases with axes. Take the classic scene of Lou Costello and the candelabra. 4. Old is Good. There's something about an old horror movie with the grainy black and white and the spooky music that really captures what you want come Halloween. A few Black and Whites and certainly some Hammer Horrors will get viewings over more modern productions this season. 5. Psychopaths are a bore. I usually snooze at these movies anyway, but especially at Halloween-time. Give me a vampire over some torture specialist any day. No Saw films for me in October, because, while being captured and tortured is horrific, it ain't Halloween Horror. 6. Exceptions to Every Rule. The first exception is my Phantom category. The Phantom is any frightening entity that may or may not be supernatural, but is clearly not totally human. This is how I get Halloween, Friday the 13th Part 2, and other favorites into the mix. Jigsaw doesn't do it for me, because he's really just a really smart, really sick guy. But Michael Meyers... "what was behind those eyes was purely, simply evil..." (or words to that effect). And Freddy, well I guess Freddy is a ghost, but regardless he is clearly "supernatural". There will probably be more exceptions as we go.

I just got Suspiria about a month ago and it's still sitting on the shelf waiting for me. Now that I think about it, maybe I'll save it for Halloween.

I tend to stick to my classic horror flicks for the Halloween month. The Uninvited, The Haunting, Diabolique, The Haunted House and The Old Dark House are my staples. And then I always watch I Married a Witch on Halloween. And I usually squeeze in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
And they always show a silent horror film at the old theater downtown with organ accompaniment. They're showing Dracula this year. I can't wait.

Alright.
Halloween movie Number 1: ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wylpeAXYcBQ This seems like a good place to start. A film that is simply a ton of fun to watch. From subversive dialogue and unlikely protagonists, to hot nude ghouls and barking half-dogs, this movie has all the good-times you could ask for from a Halloween movie. There's creepiness and some scares, great mood and great music, and a hell of a lot of sharp laughs. And of course, there's the tar-man. ![]() Given the perfect combination of real ghoulishness and good humor, I think this is the ideal movie to kick off the season. Do ya wanna party? ![]() It's PARTY TIME!!! (Nuhn-nuh-NUH!) ![]() PS- "Send... more... Paramedics..."

Pretty much the only ones I watch every year are Halloween, The Shining, and Dawn of the Dead.
This year I'd like to catch up on my Argento, Landis and Fulci.

Well, I just got the two disc special edition of Re-Animator, so I'm definitely going to be watching that, perhaps some Cronenberg (either Videodrome or The Fly), and of course the classics, such as Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. Oh and can't forget Frailty, some Vincent Price classics, some zombie flicks, Hell I'm going to busy throughout October...
