Question about IMAX 3D vs regular 3D

I'm planning to see Avatar this weekend, but am undecided whether I should see it in regular 3D or IMAX 3D. My concern is that I'll miss much of the action/events happening on the IMAX screen, as the screen is just so huge and it's difficult to take it all in.

For those that have experienced IMAX and regular screens, what are your thoughts? Are my fears unfounded?

Thanks

I've enjoyed every IMAX experience I've had, and for what it's worth I've also preferred every IMAX 3D to every Real D screening I've seen. Though I haven't experienced Dolby 3D, so I can't comment. I don't think there's too much to worry about so far as missing things as long as you don't get stuck in a lousy seat.

I haven't enjoyed every IMAX 3D experience I have had. But I am going to an IMAX showing and am trying to attend the best theater I can. My reason is to avoid dim screens. I think your fears of missing the action are unfounded because most IMAX screens are barely larger than the bigger rectangular counterparts. These are not your father's IMAX screens. These are smaller and shoved closer to the audience to create the illusion of biggery. Personally I think if you can see it in IMAX easily enough I would. But if you have a theater nearby that you know has excellent presentation on a large rectangular screen I think no harm done. I didn't see Dark Knight in IMAX and it was great. But I also didn't get the sensation of falling into the picture some people got when Batman makes the leap off the building. I attributed that to not seeing it on the IMAX screen. It looks like they are going to be doing some of that sort of leaping in this film. So I am going to call this my second chance at experiencing some tummy sensation. I haven't quite had that since the snow speeder scene in Empire.
